RESOLUTION

 

WHEREAS, Dr. Rolf Weil has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 95; and

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Rolf Weil was the longest-serving President of Roosevelt University in Chicago and the loving husband for 71 years of Leni; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Rolf Weil was the much-adored father of Susan and Ronald and the grandfather of two to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Rolf Weil fled his native Germany in 1936 to escape the Nazi regime and emigrated to the United States where he settled in Chicago's Hyde Park community; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Rolf Weil earned three economics degrees from the University of Chicago, including a doctorate; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Rolf Weil was a Professor of Economics, Dean of the Business School and then President of Roosevelt University; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Rolf Weil's highly esteemed tenure as President spanned from 1946 until his retirement in 1988; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Rolf Weil was a Founder and President Emeritus of the Self-Help Home where he served from 1976 to 2005; and

WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Dr. Rolf Weil serve as an example to all; and

WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared Dr. Rolf Weil to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and

WHEREAS, To his beloved family, Dr. Rolf Weil imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore

 

 

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this eleventh day of October, 2017, do hereby commemorate Dr. Rolf Weil for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Dr. Rolf Weil.
