MEMORIAL RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, It was with great sadness that members of this chamber learned of the January 11, 2013, death of Thomas J. "Tommy" Wayda; and
WHEREAS, The City Council has been informed of his passing by the Honorable Margaret Laurino, Alderman ofthe 39th Ward; and
WHEREAS, For Tommy Wayda, beloved husband of Elva, devoted father of Thomas and Andy, and proud grandpa to Lilly, family was his life and his strength, and he cherished and treasured his many friendships. Despite our sorrow, his family and friends will continue to preserve and glorify Tommy's life; and
WHEREAS, Nicknamed the "Mayor of Kildare" by Mayfair residents, Tommy knew each of his neighbors and treated everyone - both those he knew and those he did not - with kindness and respect. He will be remembered as the kind-hearted man who walked his dogs in the parks, smiling and speaking to everyone he met; and
WHEREAS, Tommy's dedication to his children and his love of sports led to volunteer positions as a youth coach. He will be remembered for inspiring and encouraging children, as well as for his leadership in the St. Edward Scouting program; and
WHEREAS, Tommy touched the lives of all who knew him through his kindness, his generosity, his heart, and his spirit. He will be deeply missed, but his memory and his legacy of faith, compassion, dignity and love will live on in those who knew and loved him; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, gathered here this seventeenth day of January, 2013, do hereby express our sorrow on the death of Tommy Wayda and extend to his family and friends our deepest sympathy; and
