WHEREAS, the Moody Bible Institute, the venerated Christian institution of higher education founded by Chicago evangelist and business leader Dvvight Lyman Moody in January 1886 recently announced the appointment of Mark Jobe, lead pastor ofthe New Community Church to serve as its tenth president; and
WHEREAS, the City of Chicago has been informed of this important appointment by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, Pastor Mark Jobe is the son of Christian missionaries who previously served the religious devotions of the faithful in a small agricultural town in Spain; and
WHEREAS, at the age of seventeen, Pastor Mark Jobe commenced his studies at the Moody Theological Seminary where he earned his diploma and a Master's Degree; and
WHEREAS, in 1986 twenty-one-year-old Pastor Mark Jobe met with eighteen people comprising a small congregation in the Back of the Yards neighborhood of Chicago who looked to him for direction and leadership; and
WHEREAS, by 1995, Pastor Mark Jobe's congregation, numbering seven-hundred, regularly met at the Ulinois Institute of Technology; and
WHEREAS, in his mission to spread the Word of God to the entire city, Pastor Mark Jobe and the congregation engaged in forty days of fasting and prayer, asking the Creator to "give us one per cent of the city" and from that point forward, his mission gained traction; and
WHEREAS, with their blessings and prayers, Pastor Mark Jobe fulfilled a secular vision to aide and assist ordinary people in their quest to re-discover the teachings of Jesus through the successful launch ofÂthe non-denominational New Life Community Church, accomplished by re-starting older Chicago churches that had lost their congregations and were on the brink of closure; and
WHEREAS, today, the New Life Community Church serves 7,000 ethnically diverse worshippers in twenty-seven multi-site Chicagoland locations stretching from Hobart, Indiana northward to Rogers Park; and
