CONGRATULATIONS EXTENDED TO GEOFFREY OBRZUT ON HIS RETIREMENT AS PRESIDENT AND CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER OF THE ILLINOIS COMMUNITY COLLEGE BOARD
WHEREAS, Geoffrey Obrzut is retiring as President and Chief Executive Officer ofthe Illinois Community College Board after being appointed on January 19, 2004; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of this occasion by the Honorable Margaret Laurino, Alderman ofthe 39th Ward; and
WHEREAS, Geoff Obrzut has served the citizens of Illinois in government for more than thirty years, including service as a State Representative for the 52nd District in the Illinois General Assembly, representing both Triton College and Oakton Community College; as Chairman of the National Council of State Directors of Community Colleges from July 1, 2009 until June 30, 2010; and as Director of the Illinois Department of Human Services, Division of Developmental Disabilities; and
WHEREAS, Geoff Obrzut had been elected to the Triton College Board of Trustees in River Grove and served on the board from 1981 to 1987; also serving as past officer and chairman of the State Relations Committee ofthe Illinois Community College Trustees Association, receiving the Illinois Community College Trustees Association's 1986 "Outstanding Alumnus ofthe Year" award and the Illinois Student Association's 1992 "Outstanding Service Award"; and
WHEREAS, Geoff Obrzut initiated the formation of the ICCB Latino Advisory Committee in March, 2008, helping inform the Illinois community college system regarding legislation affecting Latino students, educational best practices and student needs; and
WHEREAS, Geoff Obrzut graduated from West Leyden High School and Triton College, in River Grove, where he founded a group called SOAP (Students Organized Against Pollution), going on to receive his Bachelor's Degree in Political Science from the University of Illinois at Springfield; and
