CONGRATULATIONS EXTENDED TO MARVINETTA WOODLEY-PENN
WHEREAS, It has been the custom of this Legislative body to honor those distinguished individuals and organizations whose work and civic endeavor serve to enhance the quality of life for Chicagoans; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concerns and in full accord with its long-standing traditions, the City Council of Chicago is justly proud to honor Marvinetta Woodley-Penn, Executive Director of Global Girls', a youth organization focusing on the performing arts, communication, leadership and life skills, which empower young women to succeed; and
WHEREAS, Marvinetta Woodley-Penn, an outstanding public servant and a person of an overwhelmingly generous community spirit, and dedicated woman who has worked with youth for more than three decades: nineteen years as a Chicago Public School English and Theatre instructor and twelve years as Global Girls' Executive Director; and
WHEREAS, Her dynamic personality, her vision and her positive outlook have formed the many successes in Marvinetta Woodley-Penn's distinguished career and life. She embodies a loving spirit and compassionate heart and she is the epitome of character that our great city of Chicago was founded on; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Michelle A. Harris, Alderman of the 8th Ward and Chairman of the Committee on Committees, Rules and Ethics, has apprised this august body of Marvinetta Woodley-Penn's exemplary achievements and accomplishments; now, therefore,
Be It Resolved, That we, the Mayor and members of the City of Chicago City Council, gathered here this seventeenth day of June 2015 A.D., do hereby salute Marvinetta Woodley-Penn for the inspiration and confidence that she has instilled in over 2,000 youths who participate annually in community and school based programs and extend to this outstanding citizen our very best wishes for continuing success and fulfillment.
