RESOLUTION


WHEREAS, The Reverend Joseph Francis McDonnell has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 88; and

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and

WHEREAS, The Reverend Joseph Francis McDonnell was a widely admired member of the religious community and the retired Pastor of St. John of the Cross Parish in Western Springs; and

WHEREAS, A native of Chicago, the Reverend Joseph Francis McDonnell was the beloved son of the late Joseph and Helen and the dear brother of the late James, Jack and Helen; and

WHEREAS, The Reverend Joseph Francis McDonnell attended Visitation and St. Brendan schools in Chicago as well as Quigley Preparatory Seminary before graduating from St. Mary of the Lake/Mundelein Seminary; and

WHEREAS, The Reverend Joseph Francis McDonnell was ordained to the priesthood on May 3, 1955, by Samuel Cardinal Stritch; and

WHEREAS, Known for his compassion and prayerfulness, the Reverend Joseph Francis McDonnell served at Our Lady of the Angels, St. Rene Goupil and Our Lady of Grace parishes in Chicago and at St. Beatrice Parish in Schiller Park; and

WHEREAS, The Reverend Joseph Francis McDonnell also served as Chaplain of Cook County Jail; and

WHEREAS, The Reverend Joseph Francis McDonnell retired in 1996 after more than 40 years of priestly service to the Archdiocese of Chicago; and

WHEREAS, The holiness, sacrifice and dedication of the Reverend Joseph Francis McDonnell serve as an example to all; and

WHEREAS, The Reverend Joseph Francis McConnell will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and

WHEREAS, To his beloved family, the Reverend Joseph Francis McDonnell imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this twenty-second day of June, 2016, do hereby commemorate the Reverend Joseph Francis McDonnell...
