Memorial Resolution
WHEREAS, Walter Bond was recently called home to our almighty God; and
WHEREAS, This esteemed body has been notified of Walter Bond's passing by the Honorable Alderman Michael Scott, Jr. of the 24th Ward; and
WHEREAS, Walter Bond was born on February 1, 1969, in Chicago, Illinois; and
WHEREAS, Walter Bond graduated from Collins High School, where he was a basketball star; and
WHEREAS, Walter Bond attended the University of Minnesota on scholarship where he became renown for his athleticism and scoring ability, leading his team to the Elite 8 in the NCAA Tournament; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Bond went on to a very successful ten year professional career in both the United States and abroad in Italy and Germany; and
WHEREAS, He played shooting guard in the NBA for the Dallas Mavericks, Detroit Pistons and the Utah Jazz. His career high was 25 points for the Mavericks; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Bond had a successful career after he was finished with basketball. He was a sought after motivational speaker and author of the book "All Buts Stink"; and
WHEREAS, Walter Bond also hosted the Food Network series "Giving You The Business"; and
WHEREAS, The National Speakers Association in July 2015 inducted Walter Bond to the Council of Peers Award for Excellence Speaker Hall of Fame; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Bond was a man of intellect, charisma and persuasiveness whose physical presence will be sincerely missed by all who were honored to have known him; now, therefore,
Be It Resolved, That we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, gathered here this fourteenth day of December, 2016, do hereby express our sorrow on the passing of Walter Bond and extend to his family and friends our sincere condolences; and
Be It Further Resolved, That a suitable copy of this resolution be prepared and presented to the family of Walter Bond.
