RESOLUTION


WHEREAS, Robert Bright has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God; and

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and

WHEREAS, A native of Chicago, Robert Bright was a West Side community and civil rights leader who enjoyed a long and highly successful career in public service; and

WHEREAS, Robert Bright attended Crane Technical High School before graduating from Roosevelt University and earning a master's degree from Chicago State University; and

WHEREAS, Robert Bright worked for 22 years in public service before being named Deputy Director of the Illinois Department of Corrections; and

WHEREAS, Robert Bright later became Associate Executive Director of Goodwill Industries of Metropolitan Chicago; and

WHEREAS, In 1985 Robert Bright he was appointed Administrator of the Office of Professional Standards for the Chicago Police Department from which he retired; and

WHEREAS, Robert Bright was also a vocalist and an avid jazz aficionado who played both clarinet and saxophone; and

WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Robert Bright serve as an example to all; and

WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared Robert Bright to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and

WHEREAS, Robert Bright was an individual of great integrity and accomplishment who will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and

WHEREAS, To his wife, Joanne, and his five children, Robert Bright imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this twenty-third day of May, 2018, do hereby commemorate Robert Bright for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
