RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, it is with great sadness that members of this Chamber learned of the death of Bernard K. Block, on March 20, 2015, at the age of eighty eight; and,
WHEREAS, the City Council has been informed of his passing by the Honorable Thomas M. Tunney, Alderman of the 44th Ward; and,
WHEREAS, born on May 28, 1926, Bernard grew up in Chicago and graduated from the University of Miami and served 4 Vi years in the United States Navy during World War II; and,
WHEREAS, after the Navy, Bernard began his career as a salesman in home furnishings and enjoyed talking about sports and politics; and,
WHEREAS, Bernard was an active and vital member of his community who was known for his charm, warmth, kindness and ability to make people laugh with his quick wit; and,
WHEREAS, Bernard is survived by his loving wife Mary Lou and his brother Roger, along with many nephews, nieces, cousins and friends; and,
WHEREAS, Bernard's love of life and his ability to live it to the fullest endeared Bernard to his family, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him not only to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and,
WHEREAS, the hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Bernard Block serves as an example to all; and
BE IT RESOLVED that we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, assembled this 15th day of April 2015; do hereby honor the life and memory of Bernard K. Block and extend our heartfelt condolences to his family; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Bernard K. Block as a token of our honor, gratitude and respect.
