RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Joseph Rein has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of ninety-nine; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, A resident of Buffalo Grove, Joseph Rein was a highly distinguished member of Chicago's journalism community and the beloved husband of Audree, nee Samuelson, and the late Sadie, nee Lieberman; and
WHEREAS, Joseph Rein was the much-adored father of Irwin and Barbara, the grandfather of five and the great-grandfather of five to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in^abundance; and
WHEREAS, The son of a grocer, Joseph Rein was raised on Chicago's West Side and attended Medill High School; and
WHEREAS, Joseph Rein enjoyed a nearly half-decade career at the Chicago Daily News where he was a longtime sports editor and boxing writer; and
WHEREAS, Joseph Rein began his career as a copy boy at the newspaper and rose to become Executive Sports Editor; and
WHEREAS, Joseph Rein covered fights that included icons of the boxing world such as Tony Zale and Rocky Graziano; and
WHEREAS, Joseph Rein was especially proud of an expose he spearheaded on the International Boxing Club which exposed the East Coast group's ties to organized crime; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Joseph Rein serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared Joseph Rein to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, Joseph Rein imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this eighth day of November, 2012, do hereby commemorate Joseph Rein for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
