TRIBUTE TO JOSEPH SOUKAL
WHEREAS, In His Infinite Wisdom, Almighty God has granted eternal peace to Joseph Soukal, a beloved husband, an outstanding father, and public servant, on June 5, 2011, at the age of 95 years old; and
WHEREAS, Joseph Soukal started on his life's journey as one of five children born to the union of the late Frank and Rose Soukal. Joseph Soukal was a World War II veteran who served his country proudly in the United States Army; and
WHEREAS, Joseph, the proud owner of Soukal Floral Company, Inc., a faithful member of St. Jane de Chantal H.N.S., and a member of the Catholic War Veterans Post #500, was a pillar among the businessmen of his Southwest Side neighborhood; and
WHEREAS, The beloved husband of 72 years to Helen (nee Zanovit); loving father of Joseph R. (Janece), Gerald F. (Patricia) and Frank K. Soukal; cherished grandfather of Jerry (Gina), Dana (Dennis), Debbie (Rick), Lori (Patrick), Glenn (Desirea) and Karel (Heather); great grandfather of 17; dear brother of Marie (late John) Klimek, the late Frank (late Marion), the late Mildred (late Charles) Vrhel and the late Josephine (late Anthony) Kokaisl; fond cousin of Blanche (Tony) Gass; loving uncle to many, and a wonderful friend of many, Joseph Soukal leaves a legacy of faith, dignity, compassion and love; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Michael R. Zalewski, Alderman of the 23rd Ward have informed this august body of the passing of Mr. Joseph Soukal; now therefore
Be It Resolved, That we, the Mayor and the members of the City of Chicago City Council, gathered together this 6th day of July 2011 A.D., do hereby express our heartfelt sorrow upon the news of the passing of Joseph Soukal and extend our sincerest condolences to his family, and many friends whose lives he touched.
Be It Further Resolved, That a suitable copy of this resolution be prepared and presented to the family of Joseph Soukal.
