RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Marjorie Kelly Webster has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of ninety-five; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of her passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, A longtime resident of the Village of Winnetka, Marjorie Kelly Webster was the loving wife for forty-four years of the late Roderick S.; and
WHEREAS, Along with her husband, Marjorie Kelly Webster amassed one of the world's most renowned collections of early scientific instruments; and
WHEREAS, Marjorie Kelly Webster generously donated countless astronomical and navigational instruments of historical importance as well as rare books and maps to the Adler Planetarium; and
WHEREAS, According to officials from the Adler Planetarium, one slide rule donated by Marjorie Kelly Webster has been linked to Galileo or his studio; and
WHEREAS, The Websters served as volunteer curators for the Adler Planetarium's collection of scientific instruments from 1962 through 1991 and were Life Trustees; and
WHEREAS, Marjorie Kelly Webster and her husband published books on antique scientific devices and their makers called The Webster Signature Database which focused on the fourteenth through nineteenth centuries; and
WHEREAS, Marjorie Kelly Webster will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by her many relatives and friends; and
WHEREAS, To her beloved family, Marjorie Kelly Webster imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this eighth day of June, 2011, do hereby commemorate Marjorie Kelly Webster for her grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to her family; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Marjorie Kelly Webster.
