RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, St. Patrick High School in Chicago officially observed the occasion of its 150th Anniversary with a Mass and gala celebration on June 18, 2011; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of this event by Alderman Edward M: Burke; and
WHEREAS, Founded by the Christian Brothers Order, St. Patrick High School began in 1872 as a little clapboard school just west of the Loop; and
WHEREAS, St. Patrick High School currently sits on a sprawling piece of land in the Portage Park community and holds the distinction of being the oldest all-boys Catholic high school in the City of Chicago; and
WHEREAS, Throughout its long and remarkable history, St. Patrick High School has prided itself on its unwavering commitment to educating the sons of working class families; and
WHEREAS, St. Patrick High School has produced generations of students who "work with their hands," including police officers and firefighters; and
WHEREAS, In more recent years, St. Patrick High School has become the first high school in the State of Illinois to institute a mandatory drug testing policy; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of the Christian Brothers Order have produced a legacy of educational excellence at St. Patrick High School that is worthy of our great admiration and esteem; now, therefore
BE IT. RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this sixth day of July, 2011, do hereby congratulate St. Patrick High School on the occasion of its 150th Anniversary; and
 
BE IT. FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Brother Konrad Diebold, President of St. Patrick High School.
