RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, William Hersh has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of seventy-two; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, A resident of the Uptown neighborhood, William Hersh was a longtime community activist and the husband for forty-three years of Mary Claire, nee Epstein; and
WHEREAS, William Hersh was a retired IBM systems engineer who was an instructor at DeVry University and a financial manager for Pegasus Players; and
WHEREAS, Raised in Chicago, William Hersh attended Pillsbury Military Academy in Owatonna, Minnesota, earned his bachelor's of science degree in Engineering from Illinois Institute of Technology and graduated from the University of Chicago's Executive MBA program; and
WHEREAS, William Hersh was a dedicated volunteer for many local organizations, including the Uptown Chicago Commission, Margate Park Advisory Council, Edgewater-Uptown Builder's Association, Scrap Mettle Soul, Junior Achievement and the IRS' Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program (VITA); and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of William Hersh serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, William William Hersh will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and
WHEREAS, To his wife, Mary Claire, and his two sisters, Iris Helfritch and Francine Stabolito, William Hersh imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
 
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this ninth day of February, 2011, do hereby commemorate William Hersh for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of William Hersh.
