RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, on Monday, June 20, 2011, the Almighty God, in his infinite wisdom called to his eternal paradise, Seraphina Walker; and
WHEREAS, the Chicago City Council has been informed of this by 18th Ward Alderman Lona Lane; and
WHEREAS, Seraphina was born on October 19, 1916 in Bristal, Virginia to the union of Harry James Brooks, Jr. and Jesse Byrd Brooks. She was the eldest of seven children, Carrine, Maepoleon, Evelyn, Harry, Josephine and Marvin, all whom preceded her in death; and
WHEREAS, Seraphina accepted Christ at an early age at the Little Zion Baptist Church of Chicago under the Pastoral direction of Reverend J.M. Foster in the early 1940's. She was united in Holy Matrimony to Leon Henry Pass, and from that union, they were blessed with two children, Gwendolyn Pass and Leon Reginald Pass, Sr. In 1952, Seraphina was united in Holy Matrimony to Reverend Richard Felton Walker, and through that union she gained a stepÂdaughter, Mary Walker. They were happily married until his passing on March 1, 1980; and
WHEREAS, Seraphina worked for the Chicago Police Department as a Crossing Guard; she later worked for the Chicago Board of Education as a Teacher Assistant. After retirement, she started a child care service in her home, helping in the guidance and direction of many children; and
WHEREAS, Seraphina helped raise her granddaughter Samantha until age ninety three, she lived a Christian life of great love, compassion, and commitment to a loving husband, her children, her family, and friends; and
WHEREAS, Seraphina is survived by her two children, Leon R. Pass, Sr., Gwendolyn Pass; a loving daughter-in-law, Marie Pass; six grand children; one step-grandson; six great grandchildren; a host of loving nieces, newphews, great nieces, great nephews, great great nieces, great great nephews, many friends and her church family; and
BE IT RESOLVED, that we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, gathered here this 6th day of July, 2011...
