MEMORIAL RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, God in His Infinite Wisdom has called Almeta Hill, most beloved citizen, to her eternal reward on April 15, 2018; and

WHEREAS, This august body has been informed of her passing by the Honorable Carrie M. Austin, Alderman of the 34th Ward and Chairman of the Committee on Budget and Government Operations; and

WHEREAS, Born on May 16, 1925 in Ruth, Mississippi, Almeta was a devoted daughter of Jay Gould and Resetta Jenkins, who both preceded her in death. She was the fourth of twelve siblings and received her education at Topper Saw School; and

WHEREAS, Almeta met the love of her life, the late Albert Hill, her adored husband of more than 55 years. They were blessed with three children. Almeta was a nurturing, caring, and doting mother with strong morals, believing that family fellowship was as important as education was essential; and

WHEREAS, Almeta accepted Christ at an early age. She trusted in the Lord and was a faithful member displaying her Christian duties and love for the Savior. She shepherded her children through dedicated service to their church and becoming a faithful servant of God. Almeta leaves a legacy of faith, dignity and love; and

WHEREAS, She never failed to appear at family gatherings with a pot of dumplings or having family and friends to her home for a meal, especially for the holidays. She loved to cook and serving her specialties like collard greens or pound cake. Almeta was an avid gardener, enjoyed playing cards and loved the game of basketball; and
WHEREAS, Almeta leaves to cherish her memory; her children, Brenda, Phillip (Phyllis), and Mark (Peggy); four grandchildren, Erika, Tiffany, Phillip, Jr. and Jasmine; Three great-grandchildren, Jalyn, Branyiah and Jas; sisters, Lucille Adams, Juanita (Willie) Downs; brothers, Leroy (Anaree) Jenkins and Willie Estus (Illeana) Jenkins along with a host nieces, nephews, extended family and treasured friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing and being known b...
