RESOLUTION




WHEREAS, Constantine "Gus" Alpogianis has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 85; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, Constantine "Gus" Alpogianis was an icon of the restaurant industry in the Chicago Metropolitan Area and loving husband for 51 years of Evangeline, nee Mastropulos; and
WHEREAS, Constantine "Gus" Alpogianis was the much-adored father of George, Maria and Manolis and the grandfather of five to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and
WHEREAS, Constantine "Gus" Alpogianis was the dear brother of Evelyn; and
WHEREAS, The son of immigrant Greek parents, Constantine "Gus" Alpogianis was raised near Clark and Newport and attended Amundsen High School; and
WHEREAS, Following graduation, Constantine "Gus" Alpogianis enlisted in the United States Army and bravely served his country during the Korean War in the Second Infantry Division which saw action and sustained heavy casualties; and
WHEREAS, In 1953 Constantine "Gus" Alpogianis went to work at the Palace Grill on Madison Street and two years later became a co-owner of the restaurant which he helped operate until it was sold in 1969; and
WHEREAS, Constantine "Gus" Alpogianis later founded Kappy's American Grill in Morton Grove where he considered his staff "family"; and
WHEREAS, Along with his two sons, Constantine "Gus" Alpogianis also operated America's Dog eateries at Navy Pier, State and Randolph streets, the Thompson Center and the Green Market at O'Hare International Airport; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Constantine "Gus" Alpogianis serve as an example to all; and

WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared Constantine "Gus" Alpogianis to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and
