RESOLUTION CONGRATULATING BISHOP CLAUDE E. TEARS


WHEREAS, Bishop Claude E. Tears is having his 80 birthday and retiring as Pastor of the First Corinthians Missionary Baptist Church; and

WHEREAS, This esteemed body has been informed of these milestones by the Honorable Carrie M. Austin, Alderman of the 34th Ward; and

WHEREAS, Claude E. Tears was born on January 25, 1936 in Pulaski, Tennessee as the only son of the late Claudia M. Pullins; and

WHEREAS, Claude Tears moved to Chicago when he was young and attended the Chicago Public Schools and then went to the renowned Moody Bible Institute; and

WHEREAS, Pastor Tears preached his first sermon on March 21, 1965 and was ordained into the ministry on October 10th of that year. The following year on July 17th he organized the First Corinthians Baptist Church where he still serves as Pastor. One of his favorite roles as a Pastor has been as a mentor of over fifty individuals who have entered the ministry; and

WHEREAS, In 1992 Claude Tears was consecrated as a Bishop of the newly organized Interdenominational Evangelical Churches where he still serves as Presiding Bishop & General Overseer of over twenty churches in numerous countries; and

WHEREAS, Bishop Tears has been very active in the religious community. He is a former President of the Pastors Conference of the Illinois Baptist State Association and on the Board of Directors of the Chicago Metropolitan Baptist Association. He served for twelve years as the Pastor Advisor of the Chicago State University Baptist Student Union and seven years in the same role for the State of Illinois Baptist Student Ministries; and

WHEREAS, Pastor Tears is married to the former Vivian Wright and the proud father of three daughters: Evangelist Sharon Tears-White, Evangelist Carol Pilgrom and Patrice G. Tears. He gets incredible joy from his amazing grandchildren Minister Aaron White, Spencer Tears and Sydni Tears; now, therefore,
