RESOLUTION


WHEREAS, The Honorable Willie M. Whiting has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of eighty-nine; and

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of her passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and

WHEREAS, The Honorable Willie M. Whiting was a retired member of the Judiciary; and

WHEREAS, The Honorable Willie M. Whiting was one of the first African-American members of the Women's Army Corps sent to France in 1944; and

WHEREAS, After returning to Chicago following her service in the United States Army, the Honorable Willie M. Whiting graduated from The John Marshall Law School; and

WHEREAS, The Honorable Willie M. Whiting served as an Assistant Corporation Counsel, Assistant Cook County State's Attorney and Assistant U.S. Attorney before her appointment as a Magistrate and later as an Associate Judge; and

WHEREAS, The Honorable Willie M. Whiting was elected to serve as Circuit Court Judge in 1978 and heard civil cases before retiring in 2001; and

WHEREAS, The Honorable Willie M. Whiting was a longtime and faithful member of the Berean Baptist Church in Chicago; and

WHEREAS, The Honorable Willie M. Whiting belonged to many organizations, including the Chicago Bar Association, the Cook County Bar Association, the National Association of Women Judges and the Illinois Judges Association and Zeta Phi Beta Sorority; and

WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of the Honorable Willie M. Whiting serve as an example to all; and

WHEREAS, The Honorable Willie M. Whiting will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by her many relatives, friends and admirers; and

WHEREAS, To her beloved family, the Honorable Willie M. Whiting imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this sixteenth day of October, 2013, do hereby commemorate the Honorable Willie M. Whiting for her grace-filled life and do hereby express...
