RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, Fair and impartial oversight of city employees, city departments and appointed and elected officials is critical to maintaining public confidence in the institutions of government; and

WHEREAS, An ordinance merging the Office of the Legislative Inspector General with that of the Inspector General was deferred and published at today's meeting of the Chicago City Council; and

WHEREAS, In light of the significant attention this matter has received from Members of the City Council and the public in general, and the one-month deferral imposed at today's meeting, and concerns about the proposed Ordinance that were raised at the hearing of the Committee on Workforce Development and Audit held on January 7, 2016, it is prudent to convene a Working Group to determine what, if any, improvements that can be made to the proposed Ordinance are carefully considered and incorporated into the Ordinance before the final vote on this Ordinance takes place; now, therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and Members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, assembled this thirteenth day of January, 2016, do hereby establish a City Council Working Group chaired by Alderman Patrick O'Connor to consider this matter, which shall consist of the following Aldermen: William Burns, Ameya Pawar, Ricardo Munoz, Joseph Moore, Roderick Sawyer and Michelle Smith; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the Committee on Workforce Development and Audit, as a sign of our concern for this important matter.
