RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Joseph F. Leary Jr., a widely admired Boston civic leader, has officially retired as President of the Irish American Partnership; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his retirement by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, The Irish American Partnership was founded in Ireland in 1986 to organize Irish American support on behalf of job creation, education, and economic development in Ireland; and
WHEREAS, In 1987 an American Corporation was formed and awarded its federal government 501(c)(3) tax designation and began its activities in the United States; and
WHEREAS, The Irish American Partnership has worked to empower the next generation of Irish leaders by supporting educational initiatives in the North and South of Ireland through direct grants to primary schools, science teacher training, university access scholarships and employment learning programs; and
WHEREAS, During the past 25 years, Irish American supporters of the Partnership throughout the United States have provided more than $25 million dollars in funding; and
WHEREAS, More than 400 primary schools, higher educational institutions and hundreds of community organizations, North and South, have received assistance; and
WHEREAS, Widely admired for his professional experience and leadership skills, Joseph F. Leary Jr. is a former executive of Gillette; and
WHEREAS, Joseph F. Leary Jr. ably served as the President of the Irish American Partnership for 28 years and tirelessly expanded the organization and built the framework for its success; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Joseph F. Leary Jr. serve as an example to all; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this first day of November, 2016, do hereby congratulate Joseph F.
