RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, in His infinite wisdom, Almighty God has granted eternal peace to Jimme D. Hicks on July 3, 2015, an outstanding citizen and member of his community; and
WHEREAS, The City Council has been informed of his passing by The Honorable Emma Mitts, Alderman of the 37th Ward; and
WHEREAS, born to the late Edna Brunner Johnson and Lloyd Hicks in Monroe, Louisiana on December 9, 1940, he was raised by his grandmother Laura Brunner; and
WHEREAS, he married Opal Moss, the love of his life, and to this union four children were born, Demetrius, Tawana, Eric, and Jimmie. He also raised his grandson, Anthony, as his own; and
WHERAS, Jimmie loved playing basketball with his team the "Harlem Hawks", where he was known as Jimbo, and he was passionate about music, lending his talents as a deejay to parties and gatherings; and
WHEREAS, a talented and gifted dancer, a sharp dresser, and a kind soul, he earned the respect and admiration of the many who were lucky enough to call him their friend; and
WHEREAS, he will be remembered for his candor, because although he was an understanding and compassionate man, his friends and loved ones always relied on his for a frank discussion or blunt advice; and
WHEREAS, the joy of his life was caring for others, both his children and grandchildren, and he worked his life tirelessly to provide for them and care for them. Had a unique and keen understanding of young people and was an honest, compassionate father-figure to many; and
WHEREAS, a man of character, strong-will, and relentless compassion, Jimmie will be greatly missed by the many who knew him, but the memory of his character and compassion will live on in those he loved; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED, that we the Mayor and members ofthe City of Chicago City Council, gathered together this 29th Day of July, 2015, do hereby express our sincerest sorrow upon learning ofthe passing of Jimmie D. Hicks, Sr. and extend our deepest condolence to his family and loved on...
