RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The Reverend John J. Grace has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of eighty-nine; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, The Reverend John J. Grace was a widely admired member of the religious community and the Pastor Emeritus of St. Tarcissus Parish on the Northwest Side of Chicago; and
WHEREAS, A native of Chicago, the Reverend John J. Grace graduated from Quigley Preparatory Seminary and the University of St. Mary of the Lake/Mundelein Seminary and was ordained by Samuel Cardinal Stritch in 1950; and
WHEREAS, The Reverend John J. Grace was first assigned to Visitation Parish where he served as Assistant Pastor from 1950 to 1960; and
WHEREAS, The Reverend John J. Grace was Assistant Pastor at three other parishes before becoming the Pastor of St. Ludmilla in 1974; and
WHEREAS, In 1983 the Reverend John J. Grace was assigned to lead St. Tarcissus where he faithfully served until his retirement in 2000; and
WHEREAS, Known for his bilingual skills, the Reverend John J. Grace was later appointed Co-Director of the Missions Office for the Archdiocese of Chicago; and
WHEREAS, The compassion, sacrifice and dedication of the Reverend John J. Grace serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, The Reverend John J. Grace will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, the Reverend John J. Grace imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this fifteenth day of January, 2014, do hereby commemorate the Reverend John J. Grace for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of the Reverend John J. Grace.
