RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Clifton Garrick Utley has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of seventy-four; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, A native of Chicago, Clifton Garrick Utley was a widely admired member of the journalism community and the loving husband for forty years of Gertje; and
WHEREAS, The son of pioneering broadcasters, Clifton Garrick Utley accompanied his parents to studios at an early age and began working as a copy boy for the Chicago-Sun-Times; and
WHEREAS, In 1963 Clifton Garrick Utley joined NBC as John Chancellor's assistant in the Brussels bureau; and
WHEREAS, For most of the next twenty-five years, Clifton Garrick Utley was a foreign correspondent reporting from more than seventy countries across the globe for NBC News; and
WHEREAS, Clifton Garrick Utley was among the first journalists to provide television coverage of the Vietnam War; and
WHEREAS, Clifton Garrick Utley chronicled the 1968 pro-democracy demonstration in Prague, the 1973 Arab-Israeli War and revolts against apartheid in South Africa; and
WHEREAS, In addition to his role as a foreign correspondent, Clifton Garrick Utley was a weekend anchor of the "Nightly News" and a moderator of "Meet the Press"; and
WHEREAS, In 1993 Clifton Garrick Utley joined ABC News where he was the network's chief foreign correspondent based in London; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Clifton Garrick Utley serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, Clifton Garrick Utley will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, Clifton Garrick Utley imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
