RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, James M. Geary has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 88; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, James M. Geary was a retired public servant and the loving husband of the late Marie T. "Terry"; and
WHEREAS, James M. Geary was the much-adored father of Deborah, Patricia, Michael, Kathleen, the late James M. Jr. and the infant Maureen, the grandfather of fifteen and the great-grandfather of nineteen; and
WHEREAS, James M. Geary was the devoted son of the late Patrick and Ellen, nee Sammon; and
WHEREAS, James M. Geary was the dear brother of John, and the late Patrick, Mary and Thomas; and
WHEREAS, James M. Geary served his country as a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division during the Korean War; and
WHEREAS, James M. Geary enjoyed a long and illustrious career as a member of the Chicago Fire Department where he retired as a Captain; and
WHEREAS, James M. Geary was a member of the Chicago Fire Officers Association; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of James M. Geary serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared James M. Geary to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and
WHEREAS, James M. Geary was an individual of great integrity and accomplishment who will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, James M. Geary imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this twenty-third day of January, 2019, do hereby commemorate James M. Geary for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
