RESOLUTION


WHEREAS, Richard Salisbury Williamson has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of sixty-four; and

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and

WHEREAS, A resident of Kenilworth, Richard Salisbury Williamson was the loving husband for forty years of Jane Thatcher; and

WHEREAS, Richard Salisbury Williamson was the much-adored father of Elisabeth, Craig and Richard and the grandfather of one to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and

WHEREAS, Raised in Winnetka, Richard Salisbury Williamson graduated from New Trier High School, Princeton University and the University of Virginia Law School; and

WHEREAS, Richard Salisbury Williamson served in the Presidential administrations of Ronald Reagan, George H.W. Bush and George W. Bush and as an Ambassador to the United Nations where he worked to end human rights abuses and promote democratic elections; and

WHEREAS, Widely regarded for both his legal and diplomatic skills, Richard Salisbury Williamson was a Partner at Winston & Strawn and Mayer Brown and taught foreign policy at Northwestern University; and

WHEREAS, Richard Salisbury Williamson a senior fellow at the Brookings Institution, and was active in the Chicago Council of Global Affairs and the Center for New American Security; and

WHEREAS, Richard Salisbury Williamson acted as a policy advisor to the Republican presidential campaigns of Mitt Romney and John McCain; and

WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Richard Salisbury Williamson serve as an example to all; and

WHEREAS, Richard Salisbury Williamson will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and

WHEREAS, To his beloved family, Richard Salisbury Williamson imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
