TRIBUTE TO HOMER LYONS
WHEREAS, Son of Homer and Lois Lyons, husband to Princetta Griffin Lyons and loving father to three children Homer Lyons Jr, Malcolm, and Princess. Homer Lyons has spent his life working tirelessly in his passion for his community. He is an asset and leader in his community and should be recognized for his contributions;
WHEREAS, Homer Lyons, a resident of Pilsen for many years, attended and later served as an LSC member at John M. Smyth Elementary, continuously giving back to Smyth students and families. Homer also expressed his devotion and faith as a deacon and board member ofthe Kingdom Baptist Church, fueling his passion for public service;
WHEREAS, Homer has been a long-time resident of the Chicago Housing Authority ABLA/Brooks Homes, where he has demonstrated tremendous support for the youth within the community;
WHEREAS, Upon receiving his Bachelor's, Homer returned to his underserved community and began his work at the Marcy Newberry Center as an evening supervisor for after school programs, providing a space for everyone to develop a love for sports and henceforth making the Newbery Center renowned for its basketball competitions;
WHEREAS, Over the years, Homer and his wife opened up a number of businesses in the community including Home Boy's Restaurant and a Security Training and Licensing Business, specifically providing jobs to men and women of the ABLA community as well as previously convicted felons;
WHEREAS, Homer's enthusiasm for his community was seen in all aspects, even politically, as he volunteered his time assisting older residents of Barbara Jean Wright Apartments to vote in the local Aldermanic elections and becoming an assistant precinct captain as a teenager for his ward;
WHEREAS, Homer has set extraordinary standards as a role model in his community as an organizer, entrepreneur, and mentor in the City of Chicago for many decades and will continue to do so for as long as ...
