RESOLUTION HONORING PRINCE HALL
WHEREAS, Prince Hall Masons are the oldest active fraternal organization among African Americans within the State of Illinois; and
WHEREAS, in 2012, Prince Hall Masons, will be celebrating 160 years of existence but their roots in America extend well before the 1800s; and
WHEREAS, the organization was founded to honor one man, Prince Hall, after whom the Grand Lodge is named; and
WHEREAS, among the many beneficial and positive things done by Prince Hall was his ten year battle to abolish slavery in Massachusetts; and
WHEREAS, on September 11, 2011 the Most Worshipful Prince Hall Grand Lodge of Illinois will honor Prince Hall, and
WHEREAS, today Alderman William D. Burns honors the Prince Hall Masons for their contributions to the "Civil Rights Movement" in the City of Chicago and in the United States of America now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this 28th day of July, 2011, do hereby congratulate Prince Hall and the Most Worshipful Prince Hall Grand Lodge of Illinois.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Mr. Otis W. Cromartie, Sr ., Grand Master.
