RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Renowned Chicago publisher Hermene Hartman headlined the Chicago Bar Association Herman Kogan Media Awards on May 7, 2013; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of this event by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, The Kogan Awards recently celebrated twenty-four years honoring Chicago journalists who cover the courts, the police, lawyers and the legal profession; and
WHEREAS, One of the most significant and influential African-American women in media and publishing, Hermene Hartman founded N'DIGO in 1989 and has seen the publication grow to become a widely-read stalwart of urban Chicago journalism; and
WHEREAS, Under the leadership of Hermene Hartman, N'DIGO published the first interview with then-Illinois Senator Barrack Obama and has joined the proud legacy of such magazines as Jet and Ebony to provide urban readers a rounded picture of their community; and
WHEREAS, Hermene Hartman is a highly skilled interviewer and a frequent contributor to CNBC, CNN, FOX, WVON, ABC, NBC, WGN and National Public Radio; and
WHEREAS, Hermene Hartman's daily commentary "Views of the Heart," on Clear Channel (WVAZ - 102.7 Chicago), has aired since 1997; and
WHEREAS, Hermene Hartman served as the keynote speaker at the event which was held at Petterinos Restaurant; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Hermene Hartman serve as an example to all; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this eighth day of May, 2013, do hereby congratulate Hermene Hartman on her many contributions to Chicago's journalism community and do hereby express our best wishes for her continued success and achievement; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Hermene Hartman.
