MEMORIAL RESOLUTION HONORING THE LIFE OF MILDRED LOUISE WILSON

WHEREAS, Mildred Louise Wilson, beloved wife, mother, sister, and grandmother, was peacefully ushered into glory by God on May 3, 2021, at the age of 86; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of Mildred's passing by the Honorable Carrie M. Austin, Alderman ofthe 34th Ward; and

WHEREAS, Born on June 7, 1934 in Brookhaven, Mississippi, Mildred was the second eldest of four siblings blessed to the holy union between Hezekiah Cooke and Mary Louise Butler; and

WHEREAS, Mildred, or "Mill" as she was affectionately called by her closest family and friends, evolved into a witty and beautiful young lady who was well-mannered with a most delightful personality; at an early age Mill learned the virtues of individual responsibility, dedicated work ethic, duty to family, and strict discipline to following rules; and

WHEREAS, An observant child growing up, Mildred was mindful of her every action in a segregated and racist south; Mildred was entrusted to listen to her elder sister and look after her younger siblings, and stayed dedicated to her studies as a means to make a better life for herself and her siblings; despite the many disciplines she had to master to improve her career and housing options, she always exhibited a fun-loving, free, and humorous spirit, and was caring and kind to a fault; and
WHEREAS, Mildred attended Alexander High School where she met her future husband, Jimmie Lee Wilson, Sr., who began courting her; after Jimmie Lee was drafted and went to war, he returned in the 1950s and pursued Mildred; the couple married, relocated to Chicago, and began a family; and

WHEREAS, Mildred and Jimmie Lee were blessed with five children; Mildred ensured her children would be a family that prayed together, with each child baptized in Christ and attending church every Sunday under the leadership of Reverend C.
