SALUTE TO PROFESSOR LEONA S. GREEN

WHEREAS, Professor Leona S. Green was the first, and is the longest-tenured African American to teach at the Northern Illinois University College of Law; and

WHEREAS, Since joining the faculty in 1991, Professor Green has instructed in the areas of state and local government, alternative dispute resolution, and employment discrimination. Previously, she served as a senior attorney and EEO officer in the City of Chicago Department of Law under the late Mayor Harold Washington. She has also served with the Chicago Housing Authority, United States Merit Systems Protection Board, the CNA Insurance Companies and as Acting Superintendent of Employment at the Chicago Park District; and

WHEREAS, Professor Green has been the faculty advisor for the Black Law Student Association. Her pro bono civic contributions include being an organizer and volunteer at the Center for Conflict Resolution and treasurer of an organization that encourages and facilitates child adoptions; and

WHEREAS, A graduate of Northwestern University School of Law, Professor Green received fellowships from that university's Center for Urban Affairs as well as the United States Department of Urban Development. She has been the author of numerous articles that have appeared in a variety of legal publications; and

WHEREAS, The Honorable Robert W. Fioretti, Alderman of the 2nd Ward, has apprised this august body of Professor Leona S. Green's more than two decades of dedicated service to the faculty and students of the NIU College of Law; now therefore

BE IT RESOLVED That we, the Mayor and members of the City of Chicago City Council, gathered together on this 5th Day of March, 2014, do hereby salute Professor Leona S. Green for her 23 years of devotion to the education of the present and future members of the legal community and extend our very best wishes for the continuation of success in all she endeavors to do in the future.
