RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Sarkis Tashjian has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 86; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Aldermen Edward'M. Burke and Margaret Laurino; and
WHEREAS, Sarkis Tashjian was a widely admired Evanston restaurateur and the loving husband of the late Sundyl; and
WHEREAS, Sarkis Tashjian was the much-adored father of Kristina and Elizabeth and the grandfather of two to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and
WHEREAS, Sarkis Tashjian was the dear brother of Arsham, Araxie and the late Elizabeth and Ohan; and
WHEREAS, The son of parents who survived the Armenian genocide, Sarkis Tashjian was trained as a dentist; and
WHEREAS, When he arrived in the United States in 1958, Sarkis Tashjian originally operated a carpet cleaning business; and
WHEREAS, In 1965 Sarkis Tashjian bought the Evanston Breakfast and Bruch Restaurant which became Sarkis Cafe and provided customers with a "breakfast experience"; and
WHEREAS, Sarkis Tashjian used his Armenian roots and personal flair to attract generations of customers to the cafe for 35 years; and
WHEREAS, Known for greeting customers with his customary, "I love you, buddy," Sarkis Tashjian told the. Chicago Sun-Times in 1987, "You have to get up every day and say 'I'm beautiful.' It is all in your blood how you feel"; and
WHEREAS, The enthusiasm, hard work and dedication of Sarkis Tashjian serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared Sarkis Tashjian to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and
WHEREAS, Sarkis Tashjian was an individual of great integrity and accomplishment who will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, Sarkis Tashjian imparts a legacy of faithfulness...
