RESOLUTION CELEBRATING 100th BIRTHDAY OF VIRGINIA WOOD
 
WHEREAS, Virginia Wood will celebrate her one hundredth birthday on November 12, 2014; and
WHEREAS, this august body has been informed of this joyous occasion by the Honorable Marty Quinn, Alderman of the 13th Ward; and
WHEREAS, Virginia Wood, born on November 12th, 1914, during the onset of the first World War, has seen many changes in her lifetime, both in her community and globally; and
 
WHEREAS, Virginia married World War II veteran Gerald Wood, who passed in 1980, and their union bore two children, Gary and David; and
 
WHEREAS, besides her commitment to her family, Virginia was dedicated to the nurturing and development of all children, and spent many years as a Chicago Public School teacher, beloved by pupils and colleagues alike; and
 
WHEREAS, a resident of Autumn Green Senior Housing Center, Virginia is respected and admired by her fellow residents as a generous, wise woman of grace; and
 
WHEREAS, she has delighted in her role as grandmother to her six grandchildren and great-grandmother to five great-grandchildren, continuing her life-long role as caretaker even as she approaches her hundredth year of a life of kindness and devotion to her family; now, therefore
 
BE IT RESOLVED, that we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, gathered here this tenth day of September 2014, do hereby extend warmest wishes for a continued life of happiness and health, and asks the entire city of Chicago and 13th Ward community to join in the celebration of Virginia Wood on this wonderful occasion.
 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a suitable copy of this resolution be prepared and presented to Virginia Wood.
