Memorial Resolution
WHEREAS, God in his infinite wisdom and judgment has called to his Eternal Reward James Robert Haring beloved citizen and friend, Friday April 8, 2011 at the age of 65 years, and
WHEREAS, Jim Haring was an extraordinary man who had a true love of life and all it had to offer, pursuing many interests in his lifetime that included being a sailor, master gardener, diver, skier, remodeler, farmer, financial planner, tax preparer, loan officer; and
WHEREAS, Jim was born in New York City, the son of Robert and Alletta Haring, and was raised with his brother David. Jim received an undergraduate degree at Case Western and his MBA at Northwestern University, and
WHEREAS, In 1996 he met his beloved wife Yanan and married later that year. In 1998 they traveled to China to have their official Chinese wedding on September 30, 1998. Yanan worked alongside Jim to build their dreams in Chicago, and
WHEREAS, Ten years ago he established China Doll Vacation Rentals, the first vacation rental business in Chicago. He helped found an organization for vacation rental operators and was influential in the City's drafting of the Bed & Breakfast and Vacation Rental Ordinances; and
WHEREAS, Jim was very active in politics, directing his service and activism for the causes ofthe Libertarian Party and Heartland Institute.
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that we, the Mayor and members ofthe City Council of the City of Chicago, gathered here this 4th day of May, 2011, do hereby express .our sorrow on the death of a cherished community member, James Robert Haring, and extend to his family and friends our deepest sympathies.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this resolution be prepared and presented to Yanan Haring.
