RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Evelyn Echols has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 99; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of her passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, A resident of Chicago, Evelyn Echols was a widely admired entrepreneur and the loving wife of the late David; and
WHEREAS, Raised on a farm in LaSalle, Illinois, the former Evelyn Bassett moved to New York City in the mid-1930s and worked as a travel director for a large advertising agency; and
WHEREAS, Evelyn Echols married her advertising executive husband in 1950 and the couple moved to Chicago a decade later; and
WHEREAS, In 1962 Evelyn Echols opened a travel school, later known as International Travel Training Courses, Inc., a company that expanded operations to Los Angeles, San Francisco and Washington, D.C.; and
WHEREAS, Known for her can-do spirit and contagious optimism, Evelyn Echols earned a reputation as a widely recognized expert on hotel operations and travel; and
WHEREAS, Evelyn Echols also tapped her celebrity network to raise financial support for a wide range of worthy causes; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Evelyn Echols serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, Evelyn Echols will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by her many relatives', friends and admirers; and
WHEREAS, To her stepdaughter, Susan O'Donnell, her brother, Robert Bassett, and her sister, Gloria White, Evelyn Echols imparts a legacy of faithfulness and service and dignity; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this fifth day of November, 2014, do hereby commemorate Evelyn Echols for her grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to her family; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Evelyn Echols.
