RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Thomas Francis Meagher has been called to eternal life by tlie wisdom of God at the age of 92; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing.by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, Beloved husband of the late Mona L. Meagher (nee Carens), loving father of Constance (Douglas) Cole, Thomas (Diane) Meagher, Jr., Michael (Peggy) Meagher, Terence Meagher and the late Julie Anne Meagher, cherished grandfather of lan (Jordan) and MacKinzie Cole, T.R (Liz), Mathias and Michael Meagher, Meghan and Ryan Meagher, great-grandfather of Theodore, Sabrina, Thomas IV, Mathias Jr., Eden, Ian Jr., and Rockwell; and
WHEREAS, Tom was born in Chicago (Rogers Park) and attended St. Timothy's Grade School, St. George High School (Evanston) and St. Mary's College (now St. Mary's University in Winona, MN) where he met his wife, Mona; and
WHEREAS, Upon graduating in 1953, Tom served in the United States Marine Corps and obtained the rank of Captain; and
WHEREAS, Tom's career began with Sears and American Airlines management training programs; and
WHEREAS, He later worked for and became President of Continental Air Transport bus company (owned by Checker Motor Company) that served Chicago's hotels and airports, and while in that role, Richard J. Daley, Mayor of the City of Chicago, asked Tom to become the first President ofthe Chicago Convention and Tourism Bureau (now known as Choose Chicago); and
WHEREAS, After serving in that role, Tom returned to Continental Air Transport as CEO and led the purchase of Continental from Checker Motors; and
WHEREAS, Years later, he sold his interest in Continental and purchased Howell Tractor and Equipment Company and PGC Golf Carts in Stuart, FL.; and
WHEREAS, Tom also served on many charitable boards including Mercy Hospital, Catholic Charities, The 100 Club of Cook County (now Illinois), and he was a founding member of Special Children's Charities; and
