RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Mark Haines has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of sixty-five; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, Mark Haines was a widely admired broadcast journalist and the loving husband of Cindy; and
WHEREAS, Mark Haines was the much-adored father of Matt and Meredith to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities which he possessed in abundance; and
WHEREAS, Mark Haines ably served for twenty-two years at CNBC, the satellite and cable television business news channel where he was most recently the co-anchor for the morning show "Squawk on the Street; and
WHEREAS, Prior to his tenure at CNBC, Mark Haines anchored the news at television stations in Philadelphia, New York, and Providence, Rhode Island; and
WHEREAS, Mark Haines earned his law degree from the University of Pennsylvania and was a member of the New Jersey Bar; and
WHEREAS, On March 10, 2009, Mark Haines called an accurate bottom to a then persistent stock market decline; and
WHEREAS, An authentic voice in business media, Mark Haines was described by his colleagues as both professional and unflappable; and
WHEREAS, Mark Haines will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends, and colleagues; and
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, Mark Haines imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
 
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this eighth day of June, 2011, do hereby commemorate Mark Haines for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Mark Haines.
