RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Thomas S. Monson has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 90; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, A native of Salt Lake City, Utah, Thomas S. Monson was the President of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and the loving husband of the late Frances; and
WHEREAS, Thomas S. Monson was the devoted father of three children, the grandfather of eight and the great-grandfather of eleven to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and
WHEREAS, Thomas S. Monson served his country during World War II in the United States Navy, graduated from the University of Utah and earned a master's degree in business administration from Brigham Young University; and
WHEREAS, Thomas S. Monson was a counselor for three church Presidents before assuming the top leadership position of the nearly 16 million member religion in 2008; and
WHEREAS, Before joining the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, the church's governing body, Thomas S. Monson worked in church businesses, including advertising and printing for the Deseret Morning News; and
WHEREAS, During his nearly decade-long tenure as President, Thomas S. Monson emphasized the Mormon Church's humanitarian ethic as evidenced by its expansion of disaster relief efforts throughout the world; and
WHEREAS, In 2012 Thomas S. Monson made a memorable announcement at a church conference when he lowered the age for young men and women to depart on missions; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Thomas S. Monson serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, Thomas S. Monson was an individual of great integrity and accomplishment who will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, Thomas S. Monson imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
