RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, Almighty God, in His infinite wisdom, called Samuel King from this life to his eternal reward on March 2, 2015, at the age of 88; and

WHEREAS, the City Council has been informed of Mr. King's passing by the Honorable Toni Foulkes, Alderman of the 15 th Ward; and

WHEREAS, Samuel King was born in Marianna, Arkansas, the eldest child of John and Lula Belle King; and

WHEREAS, 40 years ago, Samuel met and married Annette, the love of his life. The result of this happy union was the blending of two wonderful families into one, that included eleven children. The love between Samuel and Annette was manifested in the way that they cared for each child as if the happy pair were the child's biological parents. In their dedication to each other, Samuel and Annette worked to manifest their love by creating unity and harmony around them; and

WHEREAS, Samuel was a man with a great work ethic. He retired from Corn Products, Inc., after 42 years and many awards and accolades for his efforts. He also worked for over 50 years as a part-time transportation specialist for Hillman's Grocery Stores and Jewel-Osco. In everything he did, he insisted on personal punctuality, respect, discipline and integrity; and

WHEREAS, although always serious about work, Samuel was happiest when spending time with his children and grandchildren: he loved to drive them to school and cheer for them at their various sporting events. He treasured the memories of waltzing with his daughters at their cotillions. Teaching his own work ethic, he encouraged them all to work hard and excel at school; and

WHEREAS, Samuel King is survived by his wife, Annette; their children, Peter (Gwen), Herbert (Betty), Ronnie, Terre, Reginald (Ava), Darryl, Anthony, Timberly (David) and Steven; his sisters, Lettie (Hosie) Williams and Clara Allison; sixteen grandchildren; three great­grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends;
