RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, In 2013, the Most Reverend Timothy J. Lyne will celebrate 70 years in the priesthood and 30 years as a bishop; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of these anniversaries by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, The son of a Chicago police officer, the Most Reverend Timothy J. Lyne grew up on the west side, attending Resurrection and St. Mel's elementary schools; and
WHEREAS, A graduate of Quigley Preparatory Seminary and the University of St. Mary of the Lake, the Most Reverend Timothy J. Lyne was ordained a priest in the Archdiocese of Chicago on May 1, 1943, by Samuel Cardinal Stritch and spent many fruitful years as a parish priest in Oak Park and Riverside; and
WHEREAS, As associate pastor of Holy Name Cathedral, the Most Reverend Timothy J. Lyne spent 23 years in that position of service to the church and community outreach; and
WHEREAS, Ordained Auxiliary Bishop of Chicago on December 13, 1983, the Most Reverend Timothy J. Lyne served as Episcopal Vicar for the Archdiocese of Chicago's Vicariate II; and
WHEREAS, In 1988 Bishop Lyne was appointed Vicar for Senior Priests and continues to bring a youthful enthusiasm to his duties; and
WHEREAS, In 1995 the Most Reverend Timothy J. Lyne was named an Auxiliary Bishop Emeritus of the Archdiocese of Chicago; and
WHEREAS, The Most Reverend Timothy J. Lyne received Catholic Charities' prestigious Mandatum Award in 2009 for his life-long dedication to service; and
WHEREAS, The Most Reverend Timothy J. Lyne has shared "grace, mercy and peace" to everyone he has encountered in his life and ministry; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, dedication and achievements of the Most Reverend Timothy J. Lyne serve as an outstanding example to us all; and
WHEREAS, On April 13, 2013, Catholic Charities, Holy Family Villa and the Bishop Lyne Residence will present the Most Reverend Timothy J. Lyne with the Caritas Sanctae Familiae Award to honor his vocation of generous, faithful and lovin...
