RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Suhail al Chalabi has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 74; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, A resident of the Lincoln Park neighborhood, Suhail al Chalabi was a widely respected urban planner and consultant and the loving husband of Margery; and
WHEREAS, A native of Baghdad, Suhail al Chalabi graduated from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology with a degree in architecture and earned a master's degree in urban planning and regional economics from the Athens Technological Institute in Greece; and
WHEREAS, Suhail al Chalabi moved with his wife to Chicago in the 1960s and worked at Skidmore, Owings 85 Merrill, the Northwestern Illinois Planning Commission and the Chicago Area Transportation Study; and
WHEREAS, During the administration of Mayor Jane M. Byrne, Suhail al Chalabi served as Deputy Commissioner of Development and Planning and as Commissioner of Economic Development; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Suhail al Chalabi serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared Suhail al Chalabi to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and
WHEREAS, Suhail al Chalabi was an individual of great integrity and accomplishment who will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, Suhail al Chalabi imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this eighteenth day of March, 2015, do hereby commemorate Suhail al Chalabi for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this
