RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, Vince Gavin has been called to Heaven by Almighty God on the 9th day of November, 2016 at the age of 74; and

WHEREAS, Vince Gavin was the loving and devoted husband of Eileen (nee Burke); and

WHEREAS, Vince Gavin was the cherished father of Mary Eileen, Vince, John and Paul; and

WHEREAS, Vince Gavin was the proud grandfather of Bridget Murtaugh, Emily, Jack, Brady, Brett Small, and Caroline Gavin; and

 

WHEREAS, Vince Gavin beloved sibling of Ed (the late Rita), Peggy (Larry) Hackett, Joe, and Cathy (Bill) O'Brien; and

 

WHEREAS, Vince Gavin was the fond brother-in-law of Jim (the late Mary Therese) Edwards, Tom (Sheila) Burke and the late Sharon (the late Jerry) Lynch; and

 

WHEREAS, Vince Gavin served as a well-respected Sergeant in the Chicago Police Department, receiving an award for Outstanding Patrolman of the 18th District in 1967, and was a graduate of the National FBI Academy as well as the U.S Secret Service Academy; and

WHEREAS, Vince Gavin was wounded in action as a Chicago Police Officer during the 1968 Democratic National Convention; and

 

WHEREAS, Vince Gavin served as the Director of Executive Protection for the Late Mayor Richard J. Daley; and

 

WHEREAS, Vince Gavin touched the lives of many and will be remembered by all who knew him; and

WHEREAS, Vince Gavin will be honored by renaming the northeast corner of West Kinzie Street and North LaSalle Drive as "Vince Gavin Way;" and

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this eighth day of November, 2017, do hereby honor the life and memory of Vince Gavin; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Vince Gavin as a sign of our sympathy and good wishes.
