RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The Honorable Rose Mofford has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 94; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of her passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, A native of Globe, Arizona, the Honorable Rose Mofford began her career as an administrative assistant and worked her way up through the ranks of government service; and
WHEREAS, A Democrat in a traditionally Republican state, the Honorable Rose Mofford served as the first female Secretary of State from 1977 to 1988; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Rose Mofford was elected the state's first woman Governor and served from 1988 to 1991; and
WHEREAS, Known for her punctuality and effectiveness, the Honorable Rose Mofford was revered by members of both parties for her collaborative spirit; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of the Honorable Rose Mofford serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, Her love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared the Honorable Rose Mofford to her family members, friends and all who knew her, and enabled her to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Rose Mofford was an individual of great integrity and accomplishment who will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by her many relatives, friends and admirers; and
WHEREAS, To her beloved family, the Honorable Rose Mofford imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this fifth day of October, 2016, do hereby commemorate the Honorable Rose Mofford for her grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to her family; and
