City Council April 21st, 2021
RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Michael F. Schubert has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 70 to his eternal reward; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by the Honorable Patrick D. Thompson, Alderman of the 11th Ward; and
WHEREAS, Michael F. Schubert, loving father of Martin (Lesley) and the late Nora; cherished "Grandpa Chicago Mike" of Loula; loving companion of Jayne E. Soulman; devoted son of the late Francis and Lillian.
WHEREAS, Mike was a lifelong resident of Chicago and grew up in the Back of the Yards neighborhood to loving, bard-workmg pa^
later years in Bridgeport. He was passionate about cities and, more importantly, their neighborhoods. It guided his professional life for nearly 50 years. His work gave him immense joy. where a lay person might see a neighborhood-full of problems, Mike would see an opportunity to help others make positive change. His vision worked and he made people's lives better. -
WHEREAS, Mike loved to sit at his desk with a good book or magazine, his pipe, a tall glass of ' Coke Zero on ice and the Sox game on the radio. He owned thousands of books. What made it more impressive was that he had actually read almost all of them. Even in his later years, his sense of adventure was strong. Berlin was his favorite city not named Chicago. He enjoyed all people and they enjoyed him. A lot. His best friends were his son Marty and his companion Jayne. He will be greatly missed; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED That we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of : Chicago gathered here this twenty first of April 2021, do hereby express our sorrow on the death of Michael F. Schubert and extend to his family and friends our deepest sympathy; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Michael F. Schubert. '
