RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, the American Red Cross, a national not-for-profit organization, feeds and provides emotional support to victims of disasters; supplies about 40 percent of the nation's blood; teaches skills that save lives; provides international humanitarian aid; and supports military members and their families; and

WHEREAS, locally, the American Red Cross of Chicago & Northern Illinois serves millions of people our region; and

WHEREAS, locally and nationally the America Red Cross depends on the volunteers and the generosity ofthe public to support its necessary and beneficial work; and

WHEREAS, throughout 2015, the American Red Cross of Chicago & Northern Illinois will observe its 100th anniversary ofthe service to the Chicago area; and

WHEREAS, linking this milestone anniversary with its ongoing commitment to serving those in immediate need, the American Red Cross of Chicago & Northern Illinois will kickoff its centennial celebration with a blood drive event to be held in the Great Hall of Chicago's Union Station on Wednesday, January 21, 2015; and

WHEREAS, the City Council has been advised of the American Red Cross of Chicago & Northern Illinois centennial anniversary and the related blood drive event by Alderman Robert Fioretti ofthe 2nd Ward; and

WHEREAS, in partnership with Fresenius Kabi (a global health care company that specializes in lifesaving medicines and technologies for infusion, transfusion and clinical nutrition), iHeart Media, ABC 7 Eyewitness News and Univision, the American Red Cross of Chicago & Northern Illinois will combine a festive atmosphere at the blood drive event with the very necessary work of replenishing the available supply of donated blood, which typically diminishes during the holiday season and during inclement weather; and

WHEREAS, the City of Chicago is justifiably renowned for its "I Will" spirit, which can be exemplified by a generous response from Chicagoans in support ofthe blood drive; now, therefore,
