V V VICL C(yto The Polish American Foundation, Wiez Kulter, has strongly supported Bielsko-Biala in the United States of America; and
WHEREAS, The City Council has been informed of this work and the lovely city of Bielsko-Biala by the Honorable Christopher Taliaferro, Alderman of the 29th ward; and
WHEREAS, The first traces of settlement in the Bielsko-Biala area date back to the 12th century, and owes its current development to the production of cloth; and
WHEREAS, Bielsko-Biala is a relatively large city, and is an important administrative and cultural center of Southern Poland. It is a popular vacation destination for holidays due to its mountainous landscapes, greenery, and well planned ski-areas; and
WHEREAS, Bielsko-Biala is home to approximately 200,000 people and is one ofthe most important urban centers in the Slaskie Voivodeship, outside the Katowice agglomeration. It is often called the "city of a hundred industries," and is still home to a robust textile and clothing industry; and
WHEREAS, Bielsko-Biala is home to a famous cartoon film studio that created fairy tales including Bolek i Lolek and Pies Reksio; and
WHEREAS, Many proud individuals important to American Polonia call Bielsko-Biala home, including famous jazz singer Urszula Dudziak. Krzysztof Skiba, President of the Board and owner of the SKOFF company is also from Bielsko-Biata and was recently awarded the Gold Medal of the Academy of Polish Success; and
WHEREAS, Chicago is proud to be the home to many immigrants of Polish descent, especially those from the beautiful Bielsko-Biala which contributes to the rich history ofthe world, now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and members of the City Council ofthe City of Chicago, gathered here this seventeenth day of January, 2018, do hereby recognize the tremendous contributions of the city of Bielsko-Biala and the Polish American Federation, Wie...
