RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Daryl Hawks has gone to his eternal reward at the age of thirty-eight; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, Daryl Hawks was a widely admired Chicago sports anchor and the loving husband of Sandra E., nee Kline; and
WHEREAS, Daryl Hawks was the much' adored father of Daryl, Jr., Jasmine and Christopher to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and
WHEREAS, A native of Buffalo, New York, Daryl Hawks was the beloved son of Leila D. Florence and the late Harold Hawks and the stepson of Nicholas Redino, Jr.; and
WHEREAS, Daryl Hawks served in the Marine Corps and played semi-professional football as a running back before embarking on a career as a broadcaster; and
WHEREAS, A highly talented and charismatic communicator, Daryl Hawks graduated from Buffalo State College where he earned a bachelor's degree in broadcast journalism; and
WHEREAS, Daryl Hawks worked at NBC stations in San Francisco/San Jose and Raleigh, North Carolina as well as in sports departments in Jacksonville, Florida and Palm Springs, California, before joining NBC-5 in Chicago in July of 2008 as a Sports Anchor and Reporter; and
WHEREAS, During his career, Daryl Hawks earned a reputation as a versatile sportscaster who covered a multitude of events, including several Super Bowls, MLB Playoffs, NCAA Final Four, NBA Playoffs, Stanley Cup Playoffs, Daytona 500, U.S. Open Golf Championship, the NCAA Football National Championship, the MLB Spring Training in Arizona and the MLB All-Star Game in San Francisco; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Daryl Hawks serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared Daryl Hawks to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and
