RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Silas Keehn has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 85; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, Silas Keehn was a highly distinguished member of the financial community and the loving husband for 61 years of Marcia; and
WHEREAS, Silas Keehn was the much-adored father of Peter, Libby and Britta and the grandfather of eight to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and
WHEREAS, Silas Keehn earned a bachelor's degree in economics from Hamilton College and a master's degree in business administration from Harvard University; and
WHEREAS, In 1957 Silas Keehn joined Mellon Bank and became Vice Chairman of Mellon National Corporation before being named Chairman of the Board of Directors of Pullman, Inc. in 1980; and
WHEREAS, Silas Keehn served from 1981 to 1994 as the President ofthe Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago, one of twelve regional districts which includes Iowa and parts of Illinois, Indiana, Michigan and Wisconsin; and
WHEREAS, During his tenure, Silas Keehn oversaw the renovation of the Federal Reserve's Chicago headquarters and contributed in many ways to the well-being of the national economy; and
WHEREAS, Silas Keehn was later named a Director of Netherlands Bank, ABN Amro; and
WHEREAS, Following his retirement, Silas Keehn became a Director of the Chicago Board Options Exchange and the National Futures Association; and
WHEREAS, During the Korean war, Silas Keehn proudly served his country as a member of the United States Navy aboard a destroyer named the USS Goodrich; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Silas Keehn serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, Silas Keehn was an individual of great integrity and accomplishment who will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and
