RESOLUTION


WHEREAS, Peter Gidwitz has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 67; and

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and

WHEREAS, Peter Gidwitz was a widely admired business leader and longtime resident of downtown Chicago; and

WHEREAS, A native of Chicago, Peter Gidwitz was a scion of the family that founded and ran the Helene Curtis beauty products company; and

WHEREAS, Raised in Highland Park, Peter Gidwitz attended Brown University and was a medic in the United States Air Force Reserve; and

WHEREAS, Peter Gidwitz returned to Chicago and joined the Burnham Management Company where he eventually became Chairman; and

WHEREAS, Peter Gidwitz was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in his twenties but did not allow the disease to deter him from his work as a real estate executive, civic leader and philanthropist; and

WHEREAS, Peter Gidwitz remained active in many non-profit and government agency organizations; and

WHEREAS, A Life Member of Access Living, Peter Gidwitz served as the Chairman of the Board of the Illinois Development Finance Authority and on the boards of Mount Sinai Hospital and the Illinois Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society; and

WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Peter Gidwitz serve as an example to all; and

WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared Peter Gidwitz to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and

WHEREAS, To his children, Jay, Lauren and Marjorie, his two stepchildren, Tatjana and Sara, his three brothers, Ron, Jim and Tom and his sister, Nancy, Peter Gidwitz imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
