RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Robert McClory has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 82; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, A widely admired author, journalist and educator, Robert McClory was the loving husband of Margaret, nee McComish; and
WHEREAS, Robert McClory was the much-adored father of Jennifer and the grandfather of one to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and
WHEREAS, A native of the Southwest Side, Robert McClory was ordained a Roman Catholic priest in 1958 and served at Saints Faith, Hope 8s Charity Parish in Winnetka from 1958 to 1964 and as Associate pastor at St. Sabina Parish on the South Side of Chicago from 1964 to 1971; and
WHEREAS, While serving at St. Sabina, Robert McClory met his future wife who was a nun and the school's principal; and
WHEREAS, Released from their vows, the couple married 1971 and Robert McClory earned a master's degree from the Medill School of Journalism; and
WHEREAS, Robert McClory worked as a reporter and editor for the Chicago Daily Defender from 1971 to 1979 and in 1978 launched a 22-year tenure as a contributor to the National Catholic Reporter, and
WHEREAS, In 1983 Robert McClory became an Adjunct Professor at the Medill School of Journalism where he was later named an Associate Professor; and
WHEREAS, Robert McClory also worked as a staff writer for the Chicago Reader from 1979 until the late 1990s; and
WHEREAS, Robert McClory was the author of The Man Who Beat Clout City and Radical Disciple: Father Pfleger, St. Sabina Church and the Fight for Social Justice; and
WHEREAS, Robert McClory co-founded Call to Action, a national organization dedicated to social justice and inclusion; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Robert McClory serve as an example to all; and
